ALISON PENNING
Hi! I’m Alison.
I’m a Canadian-American, Baltimore-based artist, art teacher, and gardener. I have a B.A. in Art History and English from Williams College and an M.F.A. from University of Virginia, where I studied creative writing and painting. I teach upper elementary art and run the school garden at The Park School of Baltimore.
Most of my education as a potter occurred here at the Potters Guild, where I started as a student and now am lucky to work as a member. My work includes both functional pottery and sculptural ceramics. These explorations are always driven by my interests in color, pattern, and form; and by my obsession with domestic spaces, wild places, and the gardens in between. My ceramics practice is ever-evolving and integral to my happiness, both a serious endeavor and an opportunity for play. You can follow my process and connect with me through my Instagram account (@snailhousestudio) or website (snailhousestudio.com).
